About Legacy Arts and Film Lab

Legacy Arts and Film Lab (K) Limited was registered as a private company in 2015. The aim of Legacy Arts and Film Lab is to promote and nurture talent in the arts and film for youth economic empowerment. This is with a focus on incubation of creative youth ideas and creating an avenue to use theatre, film and the arts for social change. The Company holds periodic film and theatre workshops where youth are trained in various performance arts skills and does video productions at subsidized rates. It also produces theatre and musicals and also hosts the Annual Lake International PanAfrican Film Festival (LIPFF) which takes place in November every year. The LIPFF Festivals seeks to reach more people all over Africa and is hosted around Lake Regions. (For more info www.filmfreeway.com/lipffestival )

The Founding Director Dr. Zippora Okoth (aka Zippy Okoth), is a graduate of theatre Arts (BA and PhD). She has produced, directed and acted in award winning stage, TV and film productions in Kenya and East Africa. Dr.  Zippora Okoth is a lecturer-department of Film and Theatre Arts at Kenyatta University. She is the first woman PhD in Theatre Arts from a Kenyan University. She has participated as jury in various film festivals in Kenya and Uganda. She is the founder of LIPFF (Lake International Pan African Film Festival), which only accepts films in African Languages from Africa,  now in it’s third year. She has served as a member of the Kenya Film Policy task force and the Kenya Cultural Centre Act task force. She has served as a notable speaker and panelist in various forums in Africa. She loves theatre Arts and has produced, directed award winning original musicals. She is also an actress,  and recently performed to a full house,  starring in ‘a one woman play’ dubbed “Stranger in my bed: from the diary of a divorced woman”.  She has held theatre performance workshops at the University of Cincinnati (3rd Best Theatre Conservatoire in America) and in South Africa. She has hosted various International forums on theatre and film. Her command in the theatre and film industry is admirable.
